To all who served...
Behold I stand in the awe of the flag
Completely humbled by those who came before
Those who fought for us
Those who sacrificed with us
Those who died defending us
For it was those who shaped our country
Yes, we've worked our way through recessions, depressions, revolutions
Yet it was the true sacrifice of all those who fought
Defending our beliefs; our way of life
We live here today
As Hollywood paints our memories and understanding of the past
We research in books We surf the net
Striving to better understand the way it was
What it took for the victory to come
The very victory that ensured safety for the future
And yet we realize that the very thing we are striving to find
Is the very thing impossible to attain
For this was the dream that burned in the hearts of the weary and the
Huddled masses yearning to be free
Those who crammed into the ships to come across
If for nothing else but a chance to achieve their dream
This was the same dream that brought us back across the oceans
The dream that survived the bombs and guns
The lonely nights frozen in the devil's land
The terrifying days lost among the walking dead
The golden road paved with hopes and dreams always led back to America
We as citizens today should be so lucky
We should look upon the stars and stripes and see
Not the number of stars on the flag
But the number of soldiers who have served preserving our country
We should see the red and remember the spilled blood left upon the fields
By those who came before
We are who we are due to those who came before
May we never forget!
